I enjoy making art that celebrates the two things that rejuvenate me the most - nature and travel. I grew up on a dirt road in the middle of midwest dairy farms, climbing trees, watching the sky, and dreaming of far-away places. When I began to travel as an adult, I found myself drawn to mountains, forests, plains, marshes, the desert - places where our world is virtually empty of people yet full of beauty. Throughout my life, I've relied on nature to help me decompress and reconnect with my true self, and my creativity. And so I often head outdoors and immerse myself in the wonders of our natural world, especially whenever I need to alleviate stress or just clear my head.
I have a college degree in painting, worked in hospitality, and then moved on to
Corporate America. Throughout it all, I’ve painted. My art has been in galleries, cafes, private
homes, and exhibitions across the country, with collectors living throughout America, Europe,
and Africa. When I left my last corporate job, I said, “Enough of this! I want to make art full time.” So I do, and I love it.
I’m inspired by the colors and patterns of nature. I see a visual rhythm in the natural world,
and seek to capture the variety of unique shapes and patterns. Within those wonderful shapes,
I explore the endless spectrum of colors in their depths and complexities.
As a sustainable artist I source all my materials and supplies from businesses as
close to home as possible. I use organic cotton canvas that’s grown, processed, and
woven in the USA, my oil paints are handmade one state over, and my brushes are made in
a town next to mine. I actively source professional grade, non-toxic, eco-friendly, and
recyclable materials for making all of my art.
I approach my paintings differently than my mixed media work. For more information on how
I work with these different mediums, check out this article.
